JKR told to intensify use of tech in road projects

KAPIT: The Public Works Department (JKR) has been urged to intensify the use of modern technologies in major projects such as the Pan Borneo Highway and rural road construction.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the use of technology, such as Building Information Modelling and digital twinning, is crucial to ensure efficiency and cost of implementation are at optimal levels.

“This technology is no longer an option, but rather a necessity.

“I call on the Sarawak Public Works Department and all relevant agencies to establish close cooperation with the Works Ministry to implement the pilot project in Kapit,” he said at the 2025 Ngiling Tikai Gawai Dayak event here on Thursday night.

The event, opened by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, was also attended by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Native Law and Custom II) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Sarawak JKR director Cassidy Morris.

Nanta, who is Kapit MP, emphasised that the implementation of infrastructure projects should be carried out in an integrated and inclusive manner.
