Kangar cops nab couple for alleged abuse of six-year-old boy

KANGAR: Police have arrested the mother and stepfather of a six-year-old boy in Kampung Dato Ahmad Musa, Simpang Empat near here on suspicion of abusing the child.

Kangar OCPD Asst Comm Yusharifuddin Mohd Yusop said the 37-year-old man and 27-year-old woman were arrested at about 11pm on Monday (June 23) and have been remanded for four days to assist in the investigation.

He said the boy told his grandfather, who lodged a police report on Sunday (June 22), that he was pinched on the thigh, hit on the head, hit with a stone on the left side of his chest, pricked with a needle on his left arm, and choked by the couple.

"An examination at Hospital Tuanku Fauziah by the doctor on duty found no bruises or swelling on any part of the victim’s body except for a mark consistent with a needle prick or small sharp object on his left arm. The victim has been warded," ACP Yusharifuddin said in a statement on Tuesday (June 24).

He said the boy also told his grandfather at about 9pm on Friday (June 20) that he was beaten and abused by his mother and stepfather when he was at his mother’s house in Simpang Empat.

ACP Yusharifuddin said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. – Bernama
