KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has seized luxury items worth an estimated RM16mil in a raid at the residence of a "Tan Sri" in its investigation into alleged misappropriation of sukuk funds meant for a highway project in the Klang Valley.

The raid, conducted in Bandar Tasik Selatan, Cheras on Thursday (June 12), involved the elite MACC's Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad (ACTS).

ACTS officers were called in to ensure the safety of MACC personnel after it received information that a secret room believed to contain valuable items and weapons was located in the premises.

"The ACTS team was deployed to ensure the safety of MACC officers and to escort seized items back to the Putrajaya headquarters," the MACC's strategic communications division said in a statement on Friday (June 13).

Among the items seized during the search were 84 luxury handbags valued at around RM3mil, 11 wristwatches estimated at RM1mil and high-end liquor worth approximately RM5mil.

The MACC also confiscated gold bars, coins and figurines worth an estimated RM3mil as well as diamonds and other jewellery worth RM4mil.

MACC officers discovered a luxury-brand casino game set, believed to be worth RM150,000.

The raid also uncovered a hidden, fortified room used to store weapons and ammunition. However, nothing was seized from the room as the firearms were registered under a private security firm owned by the individual.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that the total value of the items seized during the operation was around RM16mil.

He also said further seizures could follow as investigations continue.

He also said the MACC postponed taking the statement from the individual due to health concerns.
