Cops bust ketum processing racket in Putatan car workshop

KOTA KINABALU: Penampang police have busted a ketum processing operation working out of a car workshop in Putatan.

Two local men, aged 40 and 22, were arrested in the raid.

Penampang district police chief Deputy Supt Sammy Newton said the team found a packet containing green-coloured powder believed to be dried ketum weighing 3,282.57g along with 20 plastic bottles containing about 30 litres of ketum-laced liquid.

"Drug tests on both suspects were negative results and background checks revealed neither had criminal records," he said in a statement on Friday (June 13).

Both men have been remanded for further questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, which carries a fine of up to RM10,000, up to four years' imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
