KUALA LUMPUR: Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz has not thought about his next move after his senatorship ends in December.

“Of course I have not thought about it, because there are too many things to focus on today. There is work that I have to focus on but my intention is to continue to contribute in any way up to December,” the Investment, Trade and Industry Minister told reporters at a press conference at the Regional Socialisation of the Asean Economic Community Strategic Plan 2026-2030 event here on Thursday (June 12).

“It doesn't even have to be through a position in the government. You can contribute to the government and the country in many ways. To me that is important. Politically, I will want to continue to serve the country,” he added.

Tengku Zafrul reiterated that he has no intention of participating in any by-elections be it for a parliamentary or state seat.

“The decision of me resigning has nothing to do with me wanting to be a part of another role in the government, be it minister or Mentri Besar,” he said.

Tengku Zafrul said he intends to fulfil his responsibilities as senator until his term concludes in December 2025 and the status of ministerial position is at the discretion of the Prime Minister.

On May 30, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation as an Umno supreme council member, Kota Raja Umno division chief, and Umno member.

He also expressed his intention of joining PKR.
