Eight people injured in road crash near Gerik


IPOH: Eight people sustained injuries in a head-on accident involving two cars at KM4 of the Gerik-Kupang road.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said three victims were seriously injured, while five others sustained minor injuries.

He said the department received a distress call at about 11.45am on Friday (May 30).

He said two of those who sustained serious injuries were trapped inside the same car, with two more from the car escaping with minor injuries.

“While the driver of the other car suffered serious injuries, three other passengers also sustained minor injuries.

“The vehicle with four people inside was travelling from Gerik heading towards Kupang had collided head-on with the other car on the opposite side of the road,” he said in a statement on Friday.

“The trapped victims were extricated using hydraulic rescue tools and a stretcher.

“All victims with minor injuries had been removed from the vehicles by members of the public before the arrival of firemen.

“Three victims with minor injuries were transported to the hospital using the EMRS vehicle, while the three seriously injured victims and the remaining two victims were sent to Gerik Hospital by two ambulances for further treatment,” he added.
