Anwar meets Sabah PKR leaders amid political shifts

KOTA KINABALU: Pakatan Harapan chairman and PKR President Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to meet with Sabah PKR leaders on Thursday (May 29) night.

The meeting is expected to discuss the party’s preparation for the upcoming 17th state election and the inclusion of state leaders in the Central Leadership Council (CLC).

Sabah PKR leaders did not secure positions in the CLC during the recent party election and hope for appointments as vice presidents or supreme council members.

The meeting occurs amid political turbulence in PKR, following the resignations of Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

A party insider described the meeting as crucial to ensure Sabah PKR is not sidelined as election strategies are formulated.

This meeting is part of Anwar's two-day working visit to the state.

The Prime Minister and his wife, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, are also set to attend the state-level Kaamatan Festival celebration at the Hongkod Koisaan in Penampang on Friday (May 30).

He is expected to launch Phase One of the Esteel Enterprise Sabah Sdn Bhd project at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced their resignations on Wednesday (May 28), just days after failing to retain top posts in the recent PKR party elections.

Anwar has confirmed he approved their leave applications but has not commented further on their decisions to step down.
