Baby at Danau Kota childcare centre died from choking, say cops

KUALA LUMPUR: The cause of death of a baby at a childcare centre in Danau Kota on Monday (May 26) was choking, say police.

“The cause of death was ‘asphyxia due to food and milk aspiration’,” Wangsa Maju deputy OCPD Supt Syahrul Anuar Abdul Wahab said when contacted Wednesday (May 28).

Earlier, in a statement, he had said that the death occured on May 26 at the taska in Taman Danau Kota.

Meanwhile, the Social Welfare Department confirmed that the childcare centre had a valid licence to operate.

Its director-general, Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan, when contacted, said that the childcare centre had renewed its licence on Jan 24, valid until Jan 23, 2030.

The building was approved to hold 51 children and had only 36 at the time.

“The department has contacted the police for preliminary information on the incident. As of now the childcare centre is still operating and the department will conduct a thorough investigation into the matter,” he said.
