KUCHING: Sarawak is considering an aerospace industrial park as part of efforts to develop the industry in the state, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
He said the proposed park would include high-value aerospace manufacturing, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities and conduct sustainable aviation fuel research.

"We are partnering with Airbus to expand the industry, create high-value job opportunities and attract foreign investment," he said when winding up matters related to the state International Trade, Industry and Investment Ministry at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly on Wednesday (May 28).
Awang Tengah said Sarawak aimed to create a dynamic and resilient ecosystem to become a competitive aerospace hub in Asean.
He said the newly-established Sarawak Aerospace Advisory Council would spearhead the development of the industry through education, workforce training and global partnerships to drive future investment.
To develop talent, he said an Aerospace Academy had been launched at the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs) in Lundu, while i-CATS University College had set up a faculty of aerospace engineering.

"This will equip future professionals with hands-on expertise and globally recognised qualifications," he said.
Awang Tengah also said Sarawak aspired to be a key contributor to the global semiconductor supply chain by 2030 through the Sarawak Semiconductor Roadmap.
He said the roadmap was expected to create over 3,000 high-skilled jobs, commercialise intellectual property and promote talent development over the next five to 10 years.
"With strong government support and global partnerships, Sarawak is positioned to become a key semiconductor hub in South-East Asia, offering promising investment and trade potential," he added.
