PKR National Congress kicks off as delegates gather in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU: Crowds of PKR members, dressed in shades of light blue, are making their way into the Persada Johor International Convention Centre for the party’s National Congress.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to launch the congress and deliver his speech on Friday (May 23) night in his capacity as PKR president.

Security at the venue is tight, with members scanning their faces using facial recognition kiosks placed at the entrance before entering the main hall.

The mood at the event is upbeat, with many attendees seen laughing and reconnecting with old friends.

The 2024/2025 PKR National Congress began on Thursday (May 22) with the simultaneous opening of the central PKR Youth and Women's Congress.

Elections for the central leadership for the 2025-2028 session, including the central leadership council, the youth leadership council, and the women's leadership council, concluded today after being held from 8am to 5pm on Friday.

It was reported that nearly 10,000 delegates are expected to attend the national congress.
