Trailer lorry driver killed in four-vehicle crash in Perak


IPOH: A 40-year-old trailer driver died after a four-vehicle collision at KM366 of the southbound North-South Expressway (Plus), between Sungkai and Slim River.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said a distress call was received at 10.36pm on Monday (May 19).

"The accident involved a trailer, two five-tonne lorries and an MPV.

"Upon arrival, rescuers found a male victim trapped in the driver’s seat of the trailer and he was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (May 20).

Meanwhile, he said that two victims, the driver and attendant of a five-tonne lorry carrying pipes, both aged 28, sustained minor injuries.

"Besides, the driver of the other five-tonne lorry, which was transporting motorcycles and was also aged 28, suffered leg injuries.

"The driver and passenger of an MPV, aged 37 and 32 respectively, were unharmed," he added.

Sabarodzi said the operation commander conducted a size-up and applied the Saver concept before directing the team to extricate the trapped victim using rescue tools.

He added that the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action, while the injured were transported to the hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
