Dashboard will help in delivery of aid to businesses, says statistician

PUTRAJAYA: An integrated dashboard of small traders and hawkers will empower industry players to make data-driven decisions, says chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin.

He said that with the volatility of the sector, the dashboard would help in streamlining the socioeconomic indicators of the country.

“With the collected data on hawkers and traders, we will be able to study the socioeconomic situation more specifically,” he told reporters after launching the Putrajaya Hawkers and Small Traders (Penjaya) dashboard here yesterday.

Also present were Federation of Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Associations president Datuk Zainal Abidin Abdul Majid and Penjaya president Juhaidi Yean Abdullah.

According to Mohd Uzir, the dashboard would be expanded to include hawkers and small traders nationwide, aiming for the launch by year-end.

He said this effort was part of the Statistics Department’s strategy to make statistics publicly available.

“By sharing our knowledge through data, we would be able to achieve various results.

“We will also be able to increase awareness of data usage among society,” he said.

Mohd Uzir said that the initiative marked a significant milestone in government-community collaboration, demonstrating how data can be effectively used to promote the well-being of the people.

He said this would be able to strengthen the micro sector and support the development of more inclusive and evidence-based policies.

Meanwhile, Zainal Abidin said the dashboard would help in ensuring the delivery of governmental assistance for industry players.

“The data collected and integrated in the dashboard would help the association to provide the government with better information when it comes to requesting financial assistance,” he added.

Juhaidi said the website marked a new chapter for the association in moving towards data-driven approaches.

The dashboard is now available at www.penjaya.org.

It compiles the data on hawkers and petty traders in the Federal Territory.
