BINTULU: Two people died in a single-vehicle accident at KM16 of the Pan Borneo Highway's Bintulu-Miri stretch on Monday (May 19).

A third person in the lorry involved was also injured.

One of the deceased was a 31-year-old man, while the details of the second victim are still being determined.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said that in the 10am accident, the fertiliser-laden lorry went out of control and crashed into a ditch.

"One of the victims was helped out of the lorry by passers-by.

"He was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

"The other two occupants of the vehicle, who were trapped inside, were pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene," the department said in a statement.

The victims' bodies have been turned over to the police for further action, it added.
