Two rushed to hospitals after fire

Two people were taken to hospitals and around 30 others evacuated after a fire broke out in a residential building in central Singapore, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said.

Firefighters were alerted to the incident at around 10.50pm on Wednesday and arrived to find the living room of a 10th-floor unit ablaze, the SCDF said in a Facebook post.

One person in a bedroom was assessed by a paramedic for smoke inhalation and burn injuries, while another resident from a unit on the 14th floor experienced breathlessness. Both individuals were taken to hospitals.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire likely originated from the battery of a personal mobility device in the living room.

The SCDF reminded the public to avoid purchasing or using non-original batteries for their mobility devices and warned against prolonged or overnight charging, citing fire safety risks. — Xinhua
