Tengku Amir Shah unveils ambitious plans for Shah Alam Sports Complex

SHAH ALAM: The construction of the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) is not just a single component but a comprehensive redevelopment of the entire area.

This was the key message conveyed by Selangor Raja Muda Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah in his royal address at the KSSA development’s approval letter submission ceremony held at a hotel here on Friday (May 16).

“It’s more than a stadium. It’s a space for everyone, a place where people can come together to be involved in sports, in culture, in the arts and learning.

“It’s designed with the people in mind, built for the future, but steeped in the values and traditions we Selangorians hold dear,’’ said Tengku Amir Shah.

Tengku Amir Shah said the KSSA Park serves as a community hub and is a major component of the overall KSSA development, which would see the implementation of ecological restoration through nature-based solutions.

“It will have a state-of-the-art, fully automated underground flood mitigation system underneath the complex, including a 4-hectare retention pond to manage stormwater and alleviate flooding in Shah Alam’s most vulnerable zones.

“KSSA Park’s integration into the Shah Alam Section 13 flood mitigation plan by the Selangor Irrigation and Drainage Department is a key strategic element in stormwater management, ecological restoration, urban regeneration, and sustainable water practices,’’ explained Tengku Amir.

He added that the new KSSA was an integral part of a vision and journey that had taken him seven years to realise.

“I envision a Selangor that is more inclusive, forward-thinking, and focused on long-term sustainability, where everyone has the opportunity to grow, thrive and prosper,’’ said Tengku Amir Shah.

Tengku Amir Shah said his dream was to also have the KSSA amongst some of the world’s renowned sites.

“I envision KSSA standing proudly among the world’s most iconic destinations and alongside places like the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, the Melbourne Sports Precinct or Marina Bay in Singapore.

“Not just as a stadium, but a living, breathing tapestry of voices, colours, and dreams.

“KSSA Park will be a vibrant community hub that blends cultural celebration with ecological restoration,’’ added Tengku Amir Shah.

The Raja Muda said he and Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, who share a close relationship, are committed to transforming the state into a dynamic, modern metropolis characterised by benchmark-setting amenities, cutting-edge infrastructure and a steadfast dedication to sustainable development.

“Together, we aspire to shape a state that thrives economically and leads with purpose, balancing innovation with inclusivity.

“Above all, we are united by the conviction that true development must improve lives,’’ said Tengku Amir Shah.

The Raja Muda added that he believed KSSA would flourish into a vibrant social and cultural landmark that would inspire, nurture, and unite while shaping a healthier, more progressive and enlightened Selangor for generations to come.
