Seven still hospitalised, one discharged after FRU truck crash

IPOH: The wife of Kpl Haslizal Mohd Ali, one of the victims injured in the crash that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel in Teluk Intan on Tuesday, has made an emotional plea to the public to pray for his recovery.

Siti Rafidah Kamis, 43, a teacher, said her husband, who sustained injuries to his ribs, suffered lung complications and is still unconscious at the Hospital Teluk Intan (HTI) intensive care unit.

“They had to sedate my husband. I’m in agony (over the situation), but I was told it’s the best option for now to prevent him from feeling any pain.

“Please pray for my husband’s quick recovery. Our family misses him, and we hope he will come home soon,” the mother of three told Bernama yesterday.

Siti Rafidah said the impact of the collision caused rib fractures that pierced her husband’s lungs, leading to internal bleeding.

In the 8.50am incident on Tuesday, nine members of FRU Unit 5 in Sungai Senam, Ipoh, were killed when the truck they were travelling in collided with a lorry carrying gravel stones at Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam.

They were en route to Ipoh after completing an assignment in Teluk Intan.

Eight died at the scene. One succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at HTI.

Nine other personnel were injured in the accident.

Besides 44-year-old Kpl Haslizal, Sjn Mazlan Mat, 50, and Kpl Mohd Izwan Ishak, 39, are also in critical condition.

Kpl Mohammad Zulnaidi Muhammad Zullkifli, 34; Kpl Mohd Harrisul Ikhsan Mohd Mahabudin, 39; and Sjn Mohd Parih Ali, 44, are receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The wife of Kpl Mohd Izwan, Nor Diyana Nor Mohamad, 39, said her husband suffered severe internal bleeding, abdominal trauma, kidney injuries and multiple broken bones.

She said her husband also suffered fractures in his collarbones, ribs and lower back.

Nor Diyana said the extent of his injuries has yet to be determined, adding that doctors conducted a tube thoracostomy to drain blood from his lungs.

Last Sunday, her husband participated in a running event at Pantai Remis but began to feel dizzy shortly after returning home.

“He told me he felt like vomiting; I told him it might be due to a lack of sleep. Looking back, perhaps it was an early sign that something was wrong,” Nor Diyana said, hoping her husband will regain consciousness and recover.

Meanwhile, another injured FRU member was discharged from HTI on Wednesday night.
