Focus on serving the people, Johor Regent tells state reps

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Focus on serving the people and do not turn the state assembly into a laughing stock, Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim told Johor assemblymen.

Tunku Ismail stressed that the state assembly is not a battleground for conflict, nor is it a place to express emotions or pursue personal political interests.

“Instead, it serves as a platform to discuss policies, enact laws, and, most importantly, champion the welfare and well-being of the people of Johor.

“I hope that the harmony, which has long been a tradition of the Johor state assembly, continues to be upheld.

“Do not let fighting become the norm or turn this assembly into a laughing stock for the people,” he said in his speech when opening the fourth term of the 15th State Legislative Assembly sitting here on Friday (May 16).

The Johor Regent also reminded the assemblymen that Johor is not currently facing an election.

“This is not an election season, and you have all been elected to serve the people.

“So, please focus on that responsibility. The people of Johor need assemblymen who are accountable and effective in serving them.

“They want representatives who can help drive the state’s development and improve the people’s standard of living,” he said.
