Ex-airman’s haunting last message

PETALING JAYA: A former air force personnel took to social media to share his views on vaping just days before he died.

Mohd Radzi Mustaffa, better known as Abang Rock by his followers on the video-sharing platform TikTok, urged people to quit the habit just days before his passing on May 7.

In a six-minute TikTok video posted under the username @radzirockrider, the 44-year-old motorcycle enthusiast shared how he had picked up vaping to manage work-related stress.

Mohd Radzi claimed that the habit eventually left him with a weak heart.

During long rides, he described how he would hold his vape device in one hand and the motorcycle handlebar in the other.

When he tried to quit the habit, he reported experiencing severe shortness of breath just two days later, which resulted in him being rushed to the hospital.

While lying in a hospital bed and struggling to breathe between violent coughing bouts, he held up a surgical bag containing chest tubes that were draining abscess fluid from his lungs.

“They had to sedate me and put me on oxygen. This bag is to drain yellow fluid and pus from my lungs.

“The vaping vapour has damaged my lungs. It is worse than smoking. My heart is only functioning at 3%,” Mohd Radzi said.

He cautioned vape users, particularly younger folk, “A vape device is no plaything. Quit vaping while you still have the chance. Stop now before it damages your lungs and heart.”

Netizens on TikTok, who extended their condolences to Mohd Radzi’s family, also shared their story as vape users.

DexterXD said he was always ill during the days when he was hooked on vape devices.

User Xaueeq, who thanked Mohd Radzi for his message, said, “This is good advice for me and all those who have watched it. It encourages me to quit for the sake of my health. Thank you, brother.”
