IGP orders thorough investigation into FRU accident in Teluk Intan


KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has instructed Perak police to conduct a thorough investigation into the accident involving Federal Reserve Unit personnel at Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan.

The IGP emphasized that the investigation must be conducted fairly and transparently based on current laws.

"I have contacted the Perak police chief and instructed Perak police to conduct a thorough investigation.

"We will assist the FRU personnel involved in the accident and their family members," he said when contacted on Tuesday (May 13).

It was reported that the death toll in the crash involving an FRU truck and a lorry carrying stones along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam has risen to nine.

Hilir Perak police chief Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the FRU personnel who died were from Unit 5 Ipoh.

He said the bodies have been taken to Teluk Intan Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon said the accident occurred at 8.30am along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan.

She said the accident involved a lorry laden with rocks and an FRU vehicle carrying 15 personnel, including the driver.
