IGP offers condolences to families of FRU personnel killed in crash


KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain has expressed his condolences to the families of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel killed in an accident on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, Teluk Intan.

Representing the police force, the IGP said he was deeply saddened by the tragedy.

"We will ensure the welfare of the families are taken care of. The sacrifices of those killed will never be forgotten," he said when contacted on Tuesday (May 13).

The death toll in the crash involving an FRU truck and a lorry carrying stones has risen to nine.

Hilir Perak police chief Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the deceased FRU personnel were from Unit 5 Ipoh.

He said the bodies have been taken to the Teluk Intan Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department director Sayani Saidon said the accident occurred at 8.30am along Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan.

She said the accident involved a lorry laden with rocks and an FRU vehicle carrying 15 personnel, including the driver.

"Some victims who were pulled from the vehicle have been sent to Teluk Intan Hospital, but the operation is still ongoing," she added.
