King and Queen lead tributes to honour mums

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, conveyed their heartfelt Mothers Day greetings to all mums.

Their Majesties extended their greetings through a post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s Facebook page.

The King also conveyed a special Mothers Day wish to the Queen in the same post.

“The Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasise the importance of honouring one’s mother, as paradise lies beneath her feet,” His Majesty said, according to Bernama.

His Majesty also offered prayers for his late mother, Enche’ Besar Hajah Khalsom Abdullah, and the Queen’s mother, the late Raja Perempuan Muzwin.

Mothers Day is observed on the second Sunday of May every year.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim also extended greetings to all mothers, saying that mothers are not merely the queens of their households, but the central pillar in nurturing and shaping future generations.

“I wish a Happy Mothers Day to all mothers who form the backbone of families and a dignified, outstanding and Madani society,” he posted on Facebook yesterday.

Anwar also shared a photo of himself with his late mother, Che Yan Hamid Hussein, his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, and one of his daughters.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong took the opportunity to express his gratitude and love for his mother.

He shared a picture of them both in the trending Ghibli style via a Facebook post yesterday.

“To my beloved mum and my dearest wife, thank you for all that you’ve done for our family, may you enjoy this special day,” he said.

Dr Wee also wished all mothers a blessed and wonderful day.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi conveyed his deepest gratitude to mothers, who have devoted their lives to raising their children with love and care.

“I will never forget the person who has done the most for me – my mother, who has been my source of strength since childhood.

“My tribute also goes to my beloved wife, who is the mother of our children.

“Thank you to all mothers in Malaysia. You are the backbone of the family, the people, and our nation,” he said in a post on Facebook yesterday.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the role of mothers is increasingly demanding, particularly as they face economic challenges and the rapid pace of technological advancement.

“Nevertheless, no matter the challenge, every mother always strives to do her best for her children. The duty and role of a mother is a noble responsibility. Mothers must be able to serve as “qudwah” (role models) for their children,” he shared on Facebook.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil also extended Mothers Day greetings to all mothers, who have been a source of strength, love and unwavering sacrifice.

“Without you, Mother, we are nothing,” he shared on Facebook yesterday.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that women, especially mothers, play not only a vital role in the family institution but are also valuable assets in nation-building.

“In the government, we recognise the contributions of women as leaders, educators, shapers of values, and agents of change in society. Without women, without mothers, there would be no resilient society or prosperous nation.

“To all mothers across the country, I pray that you continue to be blessed with health, strength, and grace in every step you take. Happy Mothers Day. Your sacrifices are beyond measure,” he said.

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek conveyed her greetings with this year’s theme, “A Mother’s Loving Touch”, expressing appreciation to all mothers.

“A mother’s touch is love that flows from a pure heart, raising children unconditionally and loving them without limits. May every mother continue to be blessed with health, happiness and divine favour.”

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, who attended the 2025 national-level Mothers Day Celebration in Sabah, said mothers face all sorts of challenges, such as dealing with work and family pressures, financial constraints, lack of personal time, and the burden of responsibility for their children’s education.

“Mothers must also be more cautious and balanced, especially when guiding their children on the use of technology,” she said in conjunction with the occasion.

In light of the challenges faced by women, Nancy’s ministry has introduced the National Women’s Policy 2025-2030, themed “Empowering Women, Strengthening the Nation”, to support women and mothers across all segments of society in the country.

She said the policy outlines various initiatives, such as the Kasih Ibu Tunggal programme, a skills incubator for single mothers; MamaCare; the Wanita Bangkit programme; the Two Years Exit programme; Gig@bit; and Volvo Iron Women.
