Azam reappointed as MACC chief commissioner until 2026

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Azam Baki's tenure as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner has been extended for one more year.

The MACC said that the extension would take effect from May 13.

"It is to be informed that as stated in subsection 5(1) and (2) of the MACC Act 2009, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia has decreed on the re-appointment of Tan Sri Azam Baki as MACC chief commissioner for one year starting May 13 2025 until May 12 2026," it said in a statement on Friday (May 9).

It added that the re-appointment was based on Azam’s experience, commitment and achievements throughout his tenure leading the MACC.

Azam was first appointed MACC chief commissioner on March 9, 2020, replacing Latheefa Koya.

Prior to that, he served as the MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) for four years from 2016 to 2020, in addition to holding the positions of director of Intelligence and director of its Investigation Division.

This marks the third extension for Azam’s tenure as the MACC chief commissioner.
