Food delivery rider claims trial to four robbery charges in Melaka

MELAKA: A 31-year-old food delivery rider, Ahmad Reezqan Jaliludin, claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh to four charges of robbing four women.

The accused entered the plea after the four charges were read before Judge Haderiah Siri on Thursday (May 8).

According to the first charge, the accused allegedly committed robbery involving the property of a female foreigner by fleeing with a handbag containing a mobile phone and other items worth approximately RM2,500.

The offence was allegedly committed in an alley near the Bachang Permai Flats at around 9.15pm on Feb 23.

The accused was also charged with robbing three other women at a supermarket on April 22 and a hypermarket in Peringgit on April 23 between 12.30pm and 4.17pm, respectively.

The charges were framed under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and the possibility of a fine or whipping if convicted.

Deputy Public Prosecutors Wardah Ishhar and Muhamad Ehsan Nasarudin proposed bail of RM30,000 for each charge, with an additional condition that the accused must report to the nearest police station once a month.

The accused’s lawyer, Umar Zulkarnain, appealed for a lower bail amount and requested that two sureties be allowed, stating that the accused would be bailed out by his sister, who works as a clerk earning RM2,500 per month, while his wife is unemployed.

The court set the bail at RM8,000 for each charge with two sureties and allowed the additional condition requested by the prosecution.

The court also fixed June 17 as the next mention date.
