Vatican envoy joins harvest festivities

PENAMPANG: Vatican’s ambassador to Malaysia, Archbishop Wojciech Zaluski, officiated the Kaamatan Festival celebration held at St Michael’s Church here under the Arch­diocese of Kota Kinabalu.

Archbishop Zaluski joined the celebrations, which began with a mass led by the Bishop of Kota Kinabalu, Archbishop Datuk John Wong, on Thursday.

St Michael’s Church is the 20th host for the Kaamatan celebration of the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu this year.

The next host will be Sacred Heart Church Inobong, also located in Kota Kinabalu.

Also present at the celebration was Entrepreneur and Coope­ra­tive Development Minis­ter Datuk Ewon Benedick, who recently returned from representing the Malaysian government to pay his last respects and attend the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis at the Vatican.
