Drugs worth RM320,000 seized from Melaka rented house, four nabbed

MELAKA: Four men were arrested after they were suspected of being involved in an international drug trafficking racket.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said police also confiscated syabu (methamphetamine) and other assets worth RM379,000, which was stored in a rented house in Krubong here during the raid at 11.30pm on April 30.

He said all the suspects were aged between 19 and 50.

“Further inspection during the raid led to the seizure of 10,000 grams of syabu, estimated to be worth RM320,000 and believed to be intended for the international market.

“Also confiscated were several assets belonging to the suspects, including a car and three motorcycles of various models, with a total seizure value of RM59,000,” he said on Saturday (May 3).

ACP Christopher Patit said urine tests conducted on all the suspects revealed that none of them were drug users, although one of them had two prior drug-related records.

“We believe this syndicate has been active since the beginning of the year, and the amount of drugs seized could supply as many as 33,333 addicts,” he said.

ACP Christopher Patit added that the suspects have been remanded for seven days from May 2 to May 8 to assist investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 15 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
