Two detained, over 56 tonnes of undocumented rice seized in Gurun

ALOR SETAR: The General Operations Force (GOF) has detained two men for transporting 56.53 tonnes of white rice worth RM226,120 without proper documentation in Gurun on Wednesday (April 30).

In a statement, GOF Northern Brigade commander SAC Shahrum Hashim said the trailer driver and his assistant, both locals, have been taken into custody for further investigation, though initial urine tests returned negative results.

The rice has since been handed over to the state Padi and Rice Regulatory Authority, with the case being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Control of Padi and Rice Act 1994.

Shahrum stated that the force remains committed to curbing the illegal distribution of essential goods, including rice and urged the public to support enforcement efforts by reporting suspicious activity to the authorities. - Bernama
