Man dies during hiking expedition at Bukit Larut


IPOH: A 50-year-old man died after experiencing breathing difficulties during a hiking expedition at Bukit Larut in Taiping.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the victim, Ahmad Saharim Saudi, had complained about breathing difficulties before collapsing at about 10.30am on Wednesday (April 30).

"The victim had hiked near Checkpoint 4, located about 3km from the foot of the hill.

“Rescue personnel used a four-wheel-drive vehicle belonging to the Bukit Larut Resort to reach Checkpoint 3 and proceeded on foot to the victim’s location,” he said in a statement.

Health Ministry personnel at the scene provided first aid to the victim, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sabarodzi said the hiking expedition that the victim was a part of had involved 123 participants, including those from the Kuala Kangsar, Larut, Matang and Selama district health offices.

"The victim's body has been brought down hill and handed over to the police for the next course of action," he added.
