MELAKA: The Melaka government needs approximately RM25mil to address the issue of streetlights in the state.
State Public Works, Infrastructure, Public Facilities and Transport Committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer said the allocation received this year was only RM3.5mil, involving RM3mil from the federal government and RM500,000 from the state government.
"The amount is still a long way from solving the street lighting problem on state roads, as it does not include village roads," he told the State Assembly here on Tuesday (April 29).
He was responding to a question by Tuminah Kadi@Mohd Hashim (BN-Pantai Kundor) on the allocation for street lighting.
Hameed said Melaka also received RM1.7mil under the Malaysian Road Records Information (Marris) for the installation of street lighting in village areas this year, with the Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah, and Jasin districts each receiving RM500,000, and RM200,000 allocated to the State Public Works Department. – Bernama
