MACC gets remand order for four in alleged bribery cases

SEREMBAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained orders from the Magistrate's Court here to remand four individuals including three government servants for allegedly accepting bribes.

In the first case, the MACC secured an order to remand an assistant engineer of a ministry and her husband for allegedly soliciting and accepting RM15,000 in bribes from a developer.

The bribe was an inducement to obtain information related to a housing development in a district in Selangor.

Magistrate Nurul Saqinah Rosli allowed the suspects to be remanded for five days.

It is learnt that the duo were detained around 6pm on Monday (April 28) when they turned up to have their statements recorded at the state MACC office here.

The two had allegedly accepted the bribe in two instalments between February and April this year.

In the second case, two cops were also remanded for five days for allegedly soliciting an RM6,000 bribe from a company owner.

The suspects, who are both in their 30s, were detained at separate locations here on April 28.

It is understood that they committed the alleged offence the day before.

The duo had allegedly stopped the victim to inspect his vehicle. They then took away his identity card and demanded RM6,000 for its return.

State MACC chief Awgkok Ahmad Taufik Putra Awg Ismail confirmed both the cases, which were being probed under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
