Police record statements of witnesses over death of woman, nephew in Semenyih

KAJANG: The police have recorded statements from five witnesses regarding the deaths of a woman and her nephew in Semenyih.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the victims' neighbours and family members were among those interviewed.

"We will call several other witnesses on Monday (April 28) to assist with the investigation," he said on Sunday (April 27).

He added that the victims might have been dead for more than seven days.

"We cannot determine for certain how long they have been dead, but the maggots found on the bodies have been sent for analysis.

"We have not released the bodies to their family yet," he said, adding that no arrests have been made.

Previously, the bodies of a 53-year-old woman and her 25-year-old nephew were found at their Semenyih home.

Police suspect foul play and are investigating the case as murder.

ACP Naazron said the woman's younger brother lodged a police report at about 8.43pm on Friday after visiting the house and detecting a foul odour.

"He was suspicious as there was no response when he called out, and both victims had not been seen outside the house for about 10 days," he said.

With the help of the Fire and Rescue Department, police gained entry and found both victims lying lifeless in the living room.

"We did not find any signs of the house being ransacked. The house was also locked from the inside," he said.

ACP Naazron said police seized several items related to the investigation.

"While no arrests have been made, we are taking further statements from family members and witnesses to assist with the investigation. We are also still investigating the motive," he said.

The bodies were sent for a post-mortem, and the results revealed both victims died from suffocation.

"We are investigating the matter under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder," he said.

He urged those with information to contact investigating officer Asst Supt R. Umesh at 012-6114900 or any nearby police station.
