Man, 62, remanded for alleged sexual assault of minor in Melaka

MELAKA: A 62-year-old man has been remanded for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Tengkera here.

The seven-day remand order until April 30 against the suspect was issued by Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin when the suspect was brought to court here on Thursday (April 24).

The remand allows police to continue investigations under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

According to a source, the incident took place at 7am on April 21 when the victim had gone alone to dispose of garbage at the refuse area of an apartment building in Tengkera here.

The victim was making her way back up the stairs to her home when she encountered the suspect, who lives on the second floor of the building.

It is believed that the suspect had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim, who fought him off.

The victim sought help from the apartment’s security guards, one of whom informed her mother.

The 45-year-old proceeded to lodge a police report on Wednesday (April 23)

Police investigations later revealed that the incident had been captured by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera.

Meanwhile, Melaka Tengah OCPD Assistant Comm Christopher Patit, when contacted, confirmed the police report.
