Actor goes to Shenzhen for cheaper tooth extraction

A HONG Kong actor, who is known for taking on five part-time jobs and living a frugal life, opted for dental service in mainland China to save money, China Press reported.

Niklas Lam, 30, who is undergoing orthodontic treatment, travelled to Shenzhen for tooth extraction as it was “nearly 10 times cheaper” there.

He explained that a normal tooth removal would cost between HK$700 and HK$2,500 (RM391 to RM 1,416) in Hong Kong.

If it was a wisdom tooth extraction, it could range between HK$5,000 and HK$8,000 (RM2,833 and RM4,532).

However, he managed to have two of his teeth removed in Shenzhen for only 630 yuan (RM379).

“That’s why I chose to come to Shenzhen. What else can I do if I am poor?” he said.

Besides his acting job, Lam is also involved in social work, group psychotherapy and tutoring.

He works for an online clothing store, too.

According to Lam, an actor’s income was irregular and he would not be able to support himself if he depended solely on his acting career.

“Do you think Hong Kong actors are rich? That is not the case,” he said.

Lam has appeared in TVB dramas such as Hong Kong Love Stories, Forensic Heroes VI: Redemption and The Queen of News.

> Tickets to Malaysian singer Michael Wong’s upcoming concert in Kuala Lumpur were sold out within minutes, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Priced at a flat rate of RM199, about 140,000 fans rushed to join the online queue at noon on Monday for a chance to get a ticket to the show, which will be held at Stadium Merdeka on July 19.

Wong was once nominated in the Best Male Mandarin Singer category in the 1997 Golden Melody Awards.
