KUALA LUMPUR: Aspiring to become a data analyst, Ain Ameera Mansor is all smiles after receiving a prestigious scholarship from Agrobank.
“This means I am one step closer to realising my dream.
“I applied for five other scholarships but didn’t get any and I was close to giving up.
“Then I tried for the Agrobank Madani Scholarship Programme and I finally got it,” said the 21-year-old Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Industrial Mathematics graduate.
Ain Ameera shared that the scholarship, covering both her course fees and living expenses, will significantly ease her family’s financial burden.
She was among 10 graduates awarded the scholarship during a presentation ceremony held in conjunction with Agrobank’s Hari Raya open house here on Tuesday.
Agrobank president and chief executive officer Datuk Tengku Ahmad Badli Shah Raja Hussin said the scholarship programme targets students from B40 families working in farming, livestock or fishing sectors.
“Each (scholarship) recipient receives about RM40,000.
Since 2021, Agrobank has invested RM2.5mil into the programme, which is one of our corporate social responsibility efforts.
“Most of the students were absorbed into Agrobank after their graduation and went through management training in various banking aspects.
“There are 38 individuals under this scheme and some of them even managed to reach management level,” he added.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, who officiated the event, praised Agrobank’s role as both a financial institution and a growth catalyst for agropreneurs nationwide.
“In 2024, Agrobank disbursed over RM10.44bil in financing, highlighting its strong commitment to supporting Malaysia’s food supply chain,” he said.
He also said the RM416,500 sponsorship for the 10 scholarship recipients was a strategic investment in rural human capital and the future of the nation’s agricultural sector.
Also present at the ceremony was Agrobank chairman Datuk Yunos Abd Ghani.
