Member of Sabah TYT's security detail dies in accident on way to work


KOTA KINABALU: A policeman, who is a member of the personal security detail for Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Musa Aman, died in a motorcycle accident with a pick-up truck at Kampung Laya Laya along Jalan Sulaman in Tuaran on Monday (April 14).

Corporal Azfar Arshad, 33, who was assigned by the Sabah Police headquarters to the Istana security detail, died hours after the accident while being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQE I) at 5.23am Tuesday (April 15).

It is understood the deceased was riding a motorcycle from Tuaran and was on his way to work at Istana Negeri in the city here before being involved in an accident with a pick-up truck.

In a Facebook post, Musa said that the late Corporal Azfar, who was involved in the accident, breathed his last at HQE I here.

"I managed to pay my last respects and also meet the deceased's family before I left for Kuala Lumpur to attend the funeral of the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi," he said.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun described the death of Corporal Azfar as a loss to the Sabah police contingent.

The deceased's body was taken to Majid Al-Falah, Mengkabong in Tuaran and his remains will be buried at the Muslim cemetery in Kampung Mengkabong.
