‘Malaysia has lost a true statesman’ says Dr Wee in tribute to Pak Lah

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi left a lasting imprint on Malaysia, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of Malaysians, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA President said this in his tribute to the fifth prime minister of Malaysia, who passed away on Monday evening (April 14).

“I am deeply saddened by Abdullah’s passing.

“Malaysia has lost a true statesman.

“Tun Abdullah was a man of grace, humility and deep conviction.

“He led with a calm strength and always believed in unity, moderation and compassion,” said Dr Wee in a Facebook post.

Sending his condolences to Abdullah’s family, he wished that they be granted the strength to go through this difficult time.

In an Instagram story, his son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin said the former prime minister passed away at the National Heart Institute at 7.10pm on Monday.

As the fifth prime minister of Malaysia, Abdullah was also known as the Father of Human Capital Development.

Abdullah, 85, served as the country’s fifth prime minister from 2003 to 2009.

He resigned in 2009 and was replaced by Datuk Seri Najib Razak as prime minister.

In 2022, Khairy revealed that Abdullah was suffering from dementia and was experiencing difficulty in remembering his family members.
