IPOH: Police will summon Hulu Kinta state assemblyman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad to record his statement over allegations of criminal intimidation involving an object resembling a pistol.
Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said they received a report concerning the case from a man at 12:28pm on Sunday (April 13), according to a Sinar Harian report.
According to him, the complainant claimed a commotion occurred during a Hari Raya gathering at the Taman Indah community hall.
"While attending the event, the complainant alleged that a politician pointed an object resembling a pistol at him and ordered him to leave the premises.
"The complainant was outraged and requested police assistance at the location," he said when contacted by reporters on Sunday.
He added that the police had already started interviewing several witnesses who were present at the scene.
So far, eight witnesses have come forward to provide their statements, and police are currently tracing other individuals believed to have witnessed the incident, as seen in a viral video recording.
"In this case, the politician involved will also be summoned to assist with the investigation.
"Further investigation is underway under Section 506 of the Penal Code to determine the motive behind the incident," he said.
Earlier, in a media statement, Muhamad Arafat denied the allegation, labelling it slander driven by political interests.
It is understood that the incident is related to the Tambun PKR division elections held on Sunday.
Muhamad Arafat, the incumbent Tambun PKR division chief, is being challenged by Shamsul Kamar Ani.
A one-minute and five-second viral video shows an individual, who introduces himself as Kalai, claiming that Muhamad Arafat pointed a pistol at members who were canvassing for votes.
The individual, who is said to be a candidate for the position of Tambun deputy division chief, also claimed to have evidence of the act.
