KLUANG: The Johor government plans to construct 50,000 more affordable homes by 2029, after delivering more than 16,000 units in the past three years.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government aims to deliver 30,000 units of affordable homes by 2026.

“We have successfully built and handed over 16,845 Johor Affordable Housing (RMMJ) units over the past three years, so we have roughly another 14,000 units targeted for the next two years, which are already underway.

“The next phase will focus on scaling up the initiative across Johor, beginning with pilot areas such as Kulai and Simpang Renggam, before replicating the model statewide.

“I’ve set a new target—50,000 more affordable homes by 2029. I believe it is achievable,” he said

He was speaking to reporters after officiating the J-Home One-Stop Centre (OSC) and RMMJ certificate handover ceremony at Dewan Muafakat, Simpang Renggam District Council, on Sunday (April 13).

Meanwhile, state housing and local government committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the additional 50,000 units would be built between 2027 and 2029.

“Our previous target was 30,000 RMMJ units between 2022 and 2026. The new target is another 50,000 units from 2027 to 2029,” he said.

He also shared that Johor has actively facilitated home ownership through the Syarikat Jaminan Kredit Perumahan (SJKP) scheme.

“This government-backed credit guarantee programme supports small business owners, including burger stall operators, online entrepreneurs and e-hailing drivers, who often face challenges securing housing loans due to irregular income,” he said.

He added that Johor is currently among the top states in the country benefiting from the initiative.

“In Johor, even burger sellers can own a home,” he said.
