Single dad claims trial to robbing two women, injuring one


JOHOR BARU: A single father has been charged in two separate Sessions Courts here for allegedly robbing two women in Kulai last week.

Abdur Razzaq Suppiah Abdullah, 36, pleaded not guilty after both charges were read out in court on Friday (April 11).

On the first charge, the divorcee was charged with robbing a 52-year-old Indonesian woman of her belongings, including a bag, an Indonesian passport, a mobile phone, rings and bracelets, as well as small and medium-sized wallets.

During the robbery, the accused allegedly caused serious injury to the victim.

The act was allegedly committed in the back alley of a shop along Jalan Sri Putra 1 at Bandar Putra, Kulai at around 8.30am on April 4.

He was charged before Sessions judge Thalha Bachok Embok Mok under Section 394 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397, which carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and also a fine or caning upon conviction.

In the second court, in front of judge Datuk Che Wan Zaidi Che Wan Ibrahim, the accused was charged with robbing a 37-year-old local woman of her sling bag, two identification cards, ATM cards, a mobile phone and RM200 in cash.

During the second alleged robbery, Abdur Razzaq is said to have instilled fear of potential injury to the victim.

This incident allegedly occurred at a self-service laundry along Jalan Impian Senai Utama at Taman Impian Senai in Kulai at 8.45am on the same day.

He was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of 14 years and also a fine or caning upon conviction.

Bail was set at RM9,000 and RM10,000 respectively by the first and second courts with additional conditions.

Abdur Razzaq also has to report to the nearest police station once a month, surrender his passport to the court, and not disturb the victims or prosecution witnesses.

Mention of both cases has been set for May 13, for submission of documents and for the accused to appoint a lawyer.

DPP Nor Maisarah Hassan prosecuted the first case, while DPP Nur Farah Wahida Shahudin conducted the prosecution on the second case.
