Sabah Foundation offering study loan rebates to students of two institutions

KOTA KINABALU: Those pursuing further studies at the Yayasan Sabah College of Technology (KTYS) and University College Sabah Foundation (UCSF) stand to benefit from rebate incentives offered by the Sabah Foundation Group.

The incentives are available to recipients of education loans managed by Sabah Foundation, and awarded based on academic performance.

Sabah Foundation director Datuk Seri Gulamhaidar Khan Bahadar said those who achieve a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.8 and above will have their loans fully converted into scholarships.

"Those with CGPAs between 3.5 and 3.79 will receive a 50% rebate, while students scoring between 3.0 and 3.49 will receive a 25% rebate.

"These incentives apply to both diploma and degree students at KTYS and UCSF," he said in a statement on Wednesday (April 9).

He added that the initiative aims to motivate academic excellence and attract more Sabahan students to enrol in both institutions.

UCSF currently offers 14 academic and skills-based programmes across four faculties, namely Management and Entrepreneurship, Arts and Creative Multimedia, Natural Science and Sustainability, and Cultural Diversity Development and Studies.

These are supported by various centres, including the Borneo Research Institute and the Nature-Inspired Art Gallery (NIAG).

Since its establishment 10 years ago, UCSF has benefitted over 3,000 Sabahan students and recorded its highest enrollment in 2023 with more than 1,000 active students.

It also achieved a “Competitive” rating under Malaysia’s Setara system.

KTYS was set up to provide access to quality academic and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes.

The college has built strong partnerships with industry players and institutions to align its courses with job market demands.

Under its "KTYS Pilihanku" campaign, the college enrolled 1,366 new students this year, surpassing its 2024 target.

Last year, KTYS achieved a 98% graduate employability rate through strategic collaborations, including one with DRB-Hicom University of Automotive Malaysia, which offers credit transfers and job guarantees for KTYS graduates.
