SUBANG JAYA: Early monetary aid has started being distributed to victims whose homes were damaged by the gas pipeline fire in Putra Heights.
The aid, from the federal and Selangor governments as well as PETRONAS, was presented to victims at the Kampung Bukit Lanchong community hall on Monday (April 7).
It was distributed to about 150 victims out of the 219 who registered.
The Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department will meanwhile meet with those unable to attend the presentation here.
The aid was presented by representatives of the federal and Selangor state governments as well as PETRONAS.
On April 1, a gas pipeline fire broke out at a neighbourhood in Putra Heights, resulting in flames soaring over 30m high with temperatures reaching 1,000°C, leaving hundreds displaced.
It took nearly eight hours to be extinguished.
In an immediate response to the fire, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said homeowners whose properties are completely damaged will be entitled to RM5,000 assistance, and those whose properties were partially damaged will get RM2,500.
His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, also presented personal contributions through Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor to the victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire.
A total of 308 heads of households sheltered at the temporary relief centre at the Putra Heights mosque received cash aid of RM1,000 each.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari also said the state government has agreed to give rental assistance of RM2,000 per month for six months to each affected family to rent houses while their homes are being repaired or rebuilt.
