Menora Tunnel crash: Cops record driver’s statement

IPOH: The driver of the vehicle that allegedly rammed into a pregnant woman near the Menora Tunnel last Sunday has had his statement recorded.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the 20-something-year-old driver from here had come forward to the district police station on Saturday (April 5) to give his statement.

"Investigation is now ongoing to determine the involvement of the vehicle, which is a red-coloured four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle," he said in a statement on Saturday (April 5).

Nur Fatihah Badrul Hisyam, who was eight months pregnant, was hit by a 4WD vehicle at KM264 of the North-South Expressway, and the video had gone viral.

The vehicle was also shown to have sped off.

The victim had been involved in an earlier crash after the car she was travelling in skidded and crashed.

The victim's unborn baby and another child, about two years old, were also killed.

ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the deceased's husband has yet to give his statement due to having 15 stitches on his mouth.

"He is still traumatised by the incident and is having difficulties giving his statement.

"He is now staying with his family in Tanjung Malim," he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.

“Forensics report, witnesses' account and dashcam recordings would be analysed to get a clearer picture.

"Those who have information or dashcam videos of the accident are encouraged to come forward to help with the investigation by contacting investigating officer Insp Mohamad Faiz Abdul Khalim at 018-372 8477," he said.

"We advise the public not to speculate on the incident and to give room to the police to investigate it fairly and thoroughly," he added.

In another development, ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the victim's family members had lodged a report at about 10:40pm on Friday (April 4) for the loss of jewellery following the accident.

"We have received the report, and it is also being investigated," he said.
