PETALING JAYA: Police have opened an investigation into the claim that the victim of the tragic accident near the Menora Tunnel here last Sunday was a victim of a hit-and-run.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin, said that further investigations are ongoing, including efforts to track down the owner of the vehicle involved.
"Yes, we are completing the investigation of the case," he said when contacted on Thursday (April 3). Earlier, a post on social media went viral, where the victim's family members asked for the public's help in identifying the owner of the vehicle involved in the accident that claimed the life of a pregnant woman and her two-year-old daughter.
In the post, an individual believed to be the victim’s sibling informed that there was an element of a hit-and-run in the incident involving several vehicles.
Through the dashcam footage, the vehicle continued its journey and did not stop to provide assistance after running over the victim, who was thrown into the middle of the road.
"If it was accidental, at least stop at the side or help. Instead, they drove straight and ran away. There is no humanity in this behavior.
"Please assist through the highway authorities and the public to gather information on two or three vehicles and the owners of the hit-and-run vehicles," he told Sinar Harian.
Meanwhile, the victim's mother, Nur Fatihah Badrul Hisham, 25, passed away at 9am on Monday while receiving treatment at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
Both victims, along with the unborn baby, were buried on Monday.
The same post mentioned that the victim’s husband, Abdul Rahman Abdul Rahim, 29, who sustained serious injuries, had witnessed the incident while attempting to crawl out of the vehicle to save his wife and child. "He has since safely undergone surgery and is still in a state of trauma," it said.
