KOTA BARU: A total of 467 summonses for various offences were issued to bus drivers by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) during Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri (Ops HRA) 2025 since March 24.

JPJ senior director (enforcement) Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said 245 undercover operations were carried out and 198 summonses were issued to errant bus drivers.

The notices were issued mostly for using a mobile phone while driving and driving for more than four hours without a second driver, he told reporters.

“A total of 8,173 buses at 54 depots and 28 main terminals nationwide were inspected during the operation.

“The continuous monitoring of bus operations is to ensure the smooth running of public transport services and improve road safety,” he said.

Muhammad Kifli said JPJ also collaborated with the National Anti-Drug Agency to carry out urine tests on bus drivers.

“A total of 947 bus drivers were tested, with two drivers found positive for methamphetamine and syabu,” he said.

Muhammad Kifli also revealed that JPJ had collected RM35mil in outstanding summonses through its special compound offer, which allows fines to be settled at a flat rate of RM150.

“As of now, there are still about two million unsettled summonses. We urge the public to make payments before the June 30 deadline,” he added.
