PETALING JAYA: Selangor MCA will provide free legal advice to victims of the inferno in Putra Heights, says MCA vice-president Datuk Lawrence Low.

“We will set up a special team of lawyers to provide free legal advice,” he said, adding that those affected by the Tuesday fire are worried about insurance claims for their houses and cars.

“They are also concerned about settling bank loan instalments and so on. So, we will give free legal advice to victims and they can contact us,” Low told reporters after distributing necessities to fire victims at a temporary shelter at the Putra Heights mosque yesterday.

Victims can contact Selangor MCA office secretary Kenny Tham at 012-293 7148 for legal consultation. Many victims, he said, are in a state of uncertainty, having lost their belongings overnight.

“They can stay here temporarily. But what do you do for the next one or two months?” he said.

Low said MCA and the Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) have spoken to the victims at the shelter to find out about their needs.

He said the team had brought items like diapers and toilet rolls, among others.

“MCA and CRSM have received contributions from many donors and volunteers. One of our friends is offering traditional Chinese medicine as he is a specialist from Shanghai,” he added.

CRSM executive secretary Xilas Ngang noted that fire victims also need items such as power banks to charge their devices.

Donations to the fire victims can be made via CRSM’s GoCare charity crowdfunding website.

“CRSM is also helping pets affected by the fire in Putra Heights. We have spoken to a few NGOs and they will bring some animal cages and food later.”
