Putra Heights inferno: Ministry to provide counselling services to victims

KUCHING: Counselling services will be provided to traumatised victims of the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire, says Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

She said her ministry would set up a mobile One-Stop Social Support Centre at the location for victims to seek help and support.

"Some of them may feel depressed, especially those who were in the midst of celebrating Raya, so we will provide the counselling services to help them.

"We see that psychological assistance will be needed by those traumatised by the incident," she told reporters after attending Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof's Raya open house here on Wednesday (April 2).

Nancy also said the Social Welfare Department was working closely with PETRONAS and the Selangor state government to coordinate assistance and donations for the victims.

She expressed appreciation to various organisations and individuals for donating food and other items like mattresses.

"We will assist in other ways, including financial assistance in support of the victims' housing needs," she added.
