JKR repairs 31,180sq m of potholes in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: More than 31,180sq m of potholes on federal and state roads in Kelantan have been repaired since January, says the Public Works Department (JKR).

State JKR director Nik Soh Yaacoub said of the total, 21,580sq m involved federal roads, while 9,600sq m covered state roads.

“When we receive reports regarding potholes, we respond immediately and carry out repairs within 24 hours to prevent any untoward incidents,” he told Bernama yesterday.

Previously, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi issued a stern warning to all road maintenance concessionaires, urging them to fulfil their responsibilities and prevent further fatal accidents.

He cited the tragic incident on March 21, in which two siblings lost their lives in Jalan Sengkang-Felda Inas-Bandar Tenggara, Johor.

Nanta said under JKR’s asset maintenance policy, the appointed federal road concessionaire must carry out temporary patching within a day if road damage occurs, while permanent repairs must be completed within three days.

However, he added that large-scale repairs require prior budget approval, which can be done annually and in phases.
