KUCHING: The open house tradition in Sarawak reflects the unity and harmony of its multicultural society, says Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg.

The Sarawak Premier said visitors at his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) came from all races and faiths.

"This shows the harmony that we have in Sarawak. We pray that it will continue to be maintained as it is a good ecosystem for us to bring development to our people of all races," he told reporters at the open house on Monday (March 31).

Abang Johari also noted that the guests included state Cabinet members as well as members of the public.

"It reflects the close ties within the state leadership and our good relations with the people. This will enable us to move forward with confidence in the spirit of Aidilfitri," he added.

Over 13,000 people attended the open house on the first day of Raya, many dressed in traditional costumes.

Abang Johari's open house continues at BCCK on the second day, tomorrow (April 1), from 10am to 2pm.
