The seized items believed to be used for fish bombing, including non-electrical detonators, red fuses, and bottles containing processed fertiliser.

KOTA KINABALU: Police have arrested two foreigners and seized materials believed to be used for fish bombing in a raid at Kampung Hidayat, Semporna.

The raid was conducted by a team from the Pulau Bum Bum station at 8.30pm on Wednesday (March 26) following a tip-off, according to Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Zainol.

"Among the items seized were seven non-electrical detonators, two rolls of red fuse, two white 18-litre containers believed to contain fertiliser, and three glass bottles filled with processed white fertiliser,” he said in a statement on Friday (March 28).

He said the suspects, aged 17 and 48, did not have valid identification documents and were taken to Semporna district police headquarters for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both upon conviction.

Supt Sabri urged the public to continue sharing information on fish bombing activities, saying that police would not compromise with anyone involved in such a dangerous practice.

“Such activities not only endanger lives but also destroy marine ecosystems and threaten national security,” he said.
