'Don’t air GE16 seat requests in public,' Saifuddin tells Amanah

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says component parties should not publicly air requests to contest parliamentary seats ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16).

He said such discussions must be channelled through the coalition’s formal platforms, particularly the Pakatan Presidential Council, to ensure negotiations are coordinated.

“In Pakatan, if there is any intention to contest a parliamentary seat, we don’t raise it in the newspapers. It should be brought to the Pakatan Presidential Council and through the secretariat. We even have a seat negotiation committee. That is the correct process,” he said, responding to Amanah Federal Territories chairman Khalid Samad.

Saifuddin noted that Pakatan already has an established internal framework to handle seat distribution talks. He added that official channels prevent misunderstandings and ensure decisions are made collectively.

On Wednesday (April 15), Khalid Samad expressed hope that Pakatan component parties would allow Amanah to contest three key parliamentary seats in GE16. Amanah is reportedly eyeing Putrajaya, Labuan and Titiwangsa.
