Gurdwara promotes unity through free meals


MELAKA: Gurdwara Sahib Melaka (GSM) continues to uphold the spirit of goodwill and unity by serving free meals to people from all backgrounds.

GSM vice-president Karpal Singh Chawla said vegetarian meals are provided daily, attracting a diverse crowd that grows larger over the weekends.

“Since its founding in 1925, GSM has not only been a pillar of spirituality but has also played a vital role in fostering harmony within the local community.

“The free meal service, known as Guru Ka Langgar, was established to uphold the principle of equality among all human beings, regardless of religion, age, gender or social status,” he said.

Karpal noted that the meals are prepared by volunteers who ensure that each dish is nutritious as the initiative also aims to support the less fortunate.

“This tradition reflects the ­values of sharing, inclusivity and the unity of humankind,” he said.

He added that all aspects of the meal service, from food preparation to cleaning up, are carried out by volunteers in a community kitchen.

“Anyone, regardless of race or religion, is welcome to contribute to this noble cause. GSM remains committed to community service and cultural preservation where our service to humanity reflects the core values of the Gurdwara and its deep engagement with the community,” he said.
